24 Mar 2014 Manchester Central Library opened its doors to the public on Saturday for the first time in three years, following a £48m refurbishment.
The first free library in Manchester opened in 1852 following the 1850 Free Libraries Act. The Mayor of Manchester, Sir John Potter organised the collection of donations and subscriptions to establish a library. Manchester Central Library will reopen its doors to the public on Thursday. New measures will be put in place to combat Covid-19.
